Attendance Officer
Direct Entry 14 -16
Salary: £21,665 per annum (£25,775 full year equivalent)
Contract Type: Permanent - Term Time 37 hours per week
Reference: REC2389 | Closing Date: Tuesday, 7th April 2026
Term Time Contracts
This contract offers full-time hours across 37 weeks of the year, primarily during term time. You will be required to work during the academic terms, with some additional duties outside of term time as needed. This structure provides a balance between a full-time role and flexibility during non-term periods.
The Opportunity
As a Student Attendance Officer, you will play an essential role in helping our learners overcome barriers and improve their attendance. You will adopt a proactive and supportive approach to re-engagement, working closely with young people who may display a range of complex and challenging behaviours. Through persistence, patience and strong relationship-building, you will encourage learners to attend regularly and make positive progress in their studies.
You will be responsible for closely monitoring attendance, accurately marking and tracking registers to safeguard learners and ensure high-quality reporting. Working collaboratively with personal tutors, pastoral staff, external agencies and families, you will identify attendance barriers and implement effective strategies to address them. Your ability to communicate confidently and offer a solution-focused approach will be vital in helping learners and families understand the importance of consistent attendance.
This role is based within the 14–16 Direct Entry department, which provides an Alternative Provision for school age learners referred by schools and the local authority. You will contribute to a supportive and motivating environment delivering a bespoke, practical and personalised curriculum. In doing so, you will directly support learners to achieve their goals and raise their aspirations.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a visible difference to learners’ progress, wellbeing and confidence, while contributing to a culture that values inclusion, ambition and high attendance.
About You
You will be committed, approachable and able to build strong, trusting relationships with young people and their families. You should bring experience of working with students or young people, or a genuine passion for doing so, along with an understanding of the barriers they may face when accessing education and the ability to respond to these effectively.
Highly organised and confident in managing your workload, you will be able to maintain accurate records and produce high quality written information. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will work closely with teachers, colleagues, external agencies, learners and parents in a supportive and constructive manner.
This role requires someone who can use their initiative, adapt to emerging challenges and maintain a positive, resilient outlook. You should feel confident working with learners with complex needs and demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing circumstances.
You will also play a key role in contributing to attendance strategy and targeted interventions, ensuring every learner is supported to attend regularly and punctually. Working closely with pastoral teams, other departments and external agencies, you will help identify and remove barriers to attendance. A solution focused, safeguarding first approach is essential.
Above all, you will be dedicated to improving attendance, motivated to make a genuine difference, and committed to contributing to a culture of inclusion, high expectations and support for every learner. If you believe that every day counts in a young person’s education, we would love to hear from you.
