Job Title: Senior EC&I Engineer
Location: Maidstone (Hybrid working available)
Overview:
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer to join a growing engineering environment delivering complex plant-based projects. This role will involve leading EC&I activities across the full project lifecycle, from design through to commissioning and handover, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate EC&I engineering activities across multiple projects
- Develop, review, and approve electrical, control, and instrumentation designs and documentation
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards (e.g. ATEX, GAMP, IEC, BS/EN)
- Oversee the selection and integration of EC&I systems in line with safety and process requirements
- Work closely with subcontractors, site teams, and engineers to ensure successful delivery
- Carry out risk assessments and contribute to HAZOP and safety reviews
- Support commissioning, testing, and validation of systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during installation and commissioning phases
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, process, and project teams
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
Requirements:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control & Instrumentation, or similar
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in EC&I engineering
- Proven experience delivering projects from concept through to commissioning
- Strong knowledge of industry standards such as ATEX, GAMP, IEC 61511, and BS7671
- Experience with PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and industrial control systems
- Knowledge of hazardous area design and instrumentation
- Experience managing contractors and working with multiple stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Desirable:
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards
- Experience with BMS, automation, or smart manufacturing technologies
- Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD or Trimble Prodesign
- Interest in energy efficiency and sustainable design
