Crynodeb

1. Participate in Managers hearings as part of a three-person panel and be able to chair the hearings as and when required. 2. Ensure that Managers hearings are conducted in a manner to that outlined in the MHA Code of Practice (2015), and that patients are given the opportunity, and necessary help, to explain why they wish to be discharged. 3. Hold reviews for patients who are detained under the MHA when requested by the patient or when the Responsible Clinician makes a report under section 25(1) opposing a nearest relatives application for the patients discharge. 4. Make informed decisions regarding the lawful detention of patients, using the criteria outlined in the MHA 1983. Undertake statutory reviews of renewals of renewals of , detention, where appropriate, even if the patient does not object to being detained. 5. Discharge patients from section if they do not satisfy the grounds for admission or continued detention under the MHA 1983, considering the implications of this decision e.g. patients subsequent care. 6. Inform the patient, nearest relative with the patients consent, and to the professionals involved in the hearing. 7. Record any decisions made following a review and ensure adequate reasons are recorded to evidence the decision. 8. To assist in the training of new Associate Hospital Managers through peer support as required. Main responsibilites: To participate in a panel of 3 hearings for detained patients, when requested by the MHA team To review reports and in liaison with colleagues decide whether the criteria for detention is met To discharge the patient from detention if colleagues agreed that the threshold for detention is not met
