2 year Apprenticeship

Job Overview:
To support qualified engineers in delivering commercial gas servicing, mechanical maintenance, small works, PAT testing, and general maintenance activities for D&T Mechanical clients. The apprentice will learn technical skills, follow safety procedures, and work towards competency while completing formal apprenticeship training. All work will be supervised until the apprentice is signed off as competent.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial Gas Work (Supervised)
• Assist engineers during servicing, repairs and diagnostics.
• Help prepare tools, equipment, and work areas.
• Learn Gas Safe procedures and regulations (observation only until qualified).
Mechanical & HVAC Support
Assist with routine PPM tasks on boilers, pumps and heaters.
• Help record asset information and update basic service logs.
• Learn to identify simple faults and report them.
Small Works Assistance
Support pipework installations and equipment replacements under supervision.
• Carry out safe manual handling and basic installation tasks.
• Follow method statements and safe systems of work.
Reactive Callouts
• Attend callouts with a qualified engineer.
• Assist with safe isolation, tool setup and documenting issues.
• Develop diagnostic understanding while shadowing engineers.
PAT Testing
• Conduct PAT testing once trained and signed off as competent.
• Apply test labels and update logs correctly.
• Immediately report hazards or equipment issues.
General Maintenance
• Assist with maintenance, basic repairs, and housekeeping tasks.
• Maintain a tidy and safe working environment on all sites.
Project Team Support
• Support installation, commissioning, and general project tasks during quieter periods.
• Work flexibly to support team and business needs.
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Follow all health and safety rules, PPE requirements and risk assessments.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents or near misses immediately.
• Never carry out tasks without supervision or training.
