Driver Essential

I am the Mam to a wonderful little boy called Luke, and I’m looking for a kind, reliable and energetic person to support him.

Luke is 10 years old and a very happy, chilled boy who absolutely comes alive when he is out and about. He loves long walks along the coast, exploring local walks, visiting the Alan Shearer Centre, and spending time outdoors. He also enjoys playing with his toys and attending Hadrian School, where he is very settled. Luke has an older brother and is a much-loved part of a busy family home.

Luke has a rare syndrome and has complex needs. He is a full-time wheelchair user and uses a hoist for transfers. He is profoundly deaf and does not wear hearing aids, and he also has a visual impairment, although this does not significantly limit him. Luke is unable to eat or drink orally and receives all nutrition via a tube feed. He also has a colostomy. Luke has epilepsy, which is well controlled and he does not currently experience seizures.

We are looking for someone who can help Luke enjoy life to the fullest, especially getting out into the fresh air and keeping him stimulated through activities and trips out. Because Luke uses a manual wheelchair and loves long walks, you will need to be physically fit and comfortable pushing a wheelchair over longer distances and varied terrain.
