At QA Higher Education (QAHE), we are seeking a highly accomplished Director of Estates & Facilities Management to lead our national estate and deliver an outstanding, safe, and future‑focused learning environment across our campuses in London, Birmingham, and Manchester.

What You’ll Be Doing
As our Director of Estates & Facilities Management, you will:
Strategic Leadership & Governance

- Lead the vision, planning, and optimisation of a diverse, multi‑campus estate within the UK Higher Education sector.
- Develop and refine our long‑range Estates & Facilities Strategy, ensuring alignment with institutional objectives, academic ambitions, and partner university expectations.
- Serve as the organisation’s senior advisor on estates‑related risk, operational resilience, statutory compliance, and health & safety governance.

Capital Development & Infrastructure

- Act as the senior lead for campus expansion and development, including onboarding of new sites and enhancements to existing ones.
- Oversee construction partners, consultants, and technical specialists, ensuring project delivery is on time, on budget, and compliant.
- Provide executive‑level oversight of capital budgets, cost planning, tender processes, and business cases.

Facilities & Campus Operations

- Lead excellence in daily FM operations, building services, security, cleaning, reception and all front‑of‑house services.
- Champion a student‑first service culture with consistent, high‑quality delivery across our campuses.
- Ensure all environments are safe, inclusive, accessible, and aligned with regulatory and partner university requirements.

Health, Safety & Compliance

- Hold senior accountability for all estates‑related statutory compliance (fire safety, water hygiene, asbestos, M&E systems, etc.).
- Oversee risk management frameworks, business continuity planning, and emergency response procedures.
- Lead organisational readiness for Martyn’s Law requirements.

Financial & Commercial Leadership

- Lead annual budgeting, multi‑year capital planning, energy procurement, cost‑saving initiatives, and sustainability programmes.
- Drive commercial value through effective contract management, procurement, tendering, and supplier performance oversight.

Institutional Partnerships & Reporting

- Act as senior liaison with partner universities, landlords, local authorities, regulators, developers, and external agencies.
- Provide regular strategic reporting and assurance to the CFO, Executive Leadership, and Audit & Risk Committees.

What You’ll Bring

- Extensive senior leadership experience in Estates & Facilities Management within Higher Education or a comparable multi‑site public‑sector or campus‑based environment.
- Proven expertise in capital projects, campus development, refurbishments, and delivering high‑quality FM operations.
- Deep knowledge of HE compliance, estate regulations, campus planning, sustainability, carbon reduction strategies, and modern FM methodologies.
- Strong commercial and financial governance skills, with experience managing large budgets and complex procurement.
- Professional credibility, exceptional judgement, and a collaborative approach to influencing at executive level.
- Degree‑level qualification in Estates/Property/Facilities/Construction or equivalent experience; professional membership (RICS, IWFM, CIOB, CIBSE) strongly preferred.

Why Join QA Higher Education?
