A Vacancy at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.


This job is a substantive post for a Consultant in Ophthalmology. The job is a full-time post comprising of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), with two theatre sessions per week doing. Main base will be Frimley Park Hospital but there may be clinics at other sites within Frimley Health. The post holder will play a key role and oversight of our emergency service. The successful applicant will be a committed clinician with subspecialist skills in acute ophthalmology and a track record of excellent clinical service delivery, service improvement, teaching, training, and other qualities as identified in the person specification. Experience in HVLC cataract surgery lists is also essential.

The Eye Treatment Centre at Frimley Park Hospital is equipped with sixteen consulting rooms and twin ophthalmic theatres. Outpatient and Theatre facilities will also be available at our new hospital build at Heatherwood Hospital, Ascot.

The successful applicant will join a team of thirteen consultants in the Frimley Park ophthalmic department, providing a comprehensive service to the wider community. The post holder will have a job plan comprising of emergency/general clinics and HVLC surgical sessions.

On Call duties:

1:10 on-call rota

One half day per month is dedicated to Audit and Teaching during which time all routine work is suspended. All staff are expected to attend except for those providing emergency cover.

All members of the Department are encouraged to take study leave and will be expected to fulfil CPD and revalidation requirements. Teamwork and good communication skills are essential.

It is expected that every member of the Department will play a full part in formal and informal teaching of medical and other staff, and this is recognized as part of Supporting Professional Activities.
