Crynodeb

The Head of School of Public Health is an ambassador for NHSE East Midlands and will understand NHSE priorities including the Mandate and will ensure the effective delivery of training in the School. They are responsible for the overall quality, management and supervision of the programmes in line with the standards laid out by their School Board, its committees and the curriculum. This includes the structure, organisation and delivery of training. They will ensure all the programmes within the School continue to have a population-focused public health approach, with the elimination of discrimination and the promotion of equality of opportunity and access. The Head of School will ensure there is a fair and transparent approach to decision making, which is compliant with employment legislation and good HR practice. The post holder will promote excellence in training and ensure that all trainees are equipped with the quality improvement skills to ensure high quality of care and patient safety. They will be responsible for identifying the service implications of any changes to training and for ensuring that training programmes continue to deliver the curriculum when there are changes in service delivery.

The Head of School is professionally and managerially accountable to the Postgraduate Dean. The Head of School will focus upon improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future. The role is evolving and will also focus on whole workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links mas well as innovative ways of curriculum delivery and workforce well-being strategies.

Although the main role is to lead and develop the Postgraduate School of Public Health, all senior clinicians within NHSE may have wider roles and projects as agreed with the Postgraduate Dean.

Our staff bring expertise across clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial specialisms — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.

We lead the NHS in England by:
• Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities
• Making the NHS a great place to work, where people can develop and make a difference
• Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care
• Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation
• Delivering value for money

Earlier this year, the Government announced that NHS England will gradually merge with the Department of Health and Social Care, to create a smaller, more strategic centre that reduces duplication and waste.

If successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the process.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
• To provide effective clinical leadership contributing to the strategic development of NHSE.
• To work closely with Postgraduate Dean to implement the NHS Quality Framework.
• To ensure delivery of the specialty specific aspects of the NHSE mandate through local initiatives.

You can find further details about the role, including key responsibilities and accountabilities, alongside the organisational structure and person specification in the attached Job Description and other supporting documents.
