About Us
The Insurance Team are a small Team within the Finance function responsible for procuring suitable insurance policies and handling claims made against the council.
The Team process claims across a variety of types of Insurance and this role specifically relates to Public Liability Highways claims
About the Role
This temporary role sits within the Insurance Team (Finance) and supports the Council’s insurance arrangements, with a focus on claims handling.The post holder will process insurance claims from members of the public and be required to carry out investigations, gather information from multiple systems, and communicate decisions clearly and professionally in line with Council policies and procedures.
The role involves administering claims from end to end, including negotiation, calculating compensation or recovery where appropriate, and working with colleagues across directorates and insurers.While the main focus will be Public Liability Highways claims, the role may also cover general public liability, motor and property claims.Sound judgement, cleardecision‑making records, adherence to legal deadlines and the identification of potentially fraudulent claims are essential to the role.

About you
You have a goodunderstanding of the insurance claims process and areconfident handling cases from investigation through to resolution.You communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally, and are comfortable negotiating outcomes and explaining decisions to a range of stakeholders, including members of the public and internal colleagues.
You are able to use your judgement to manage complex and sometimessensitive cases, workingindependently while maintaining clear and accurate records tosupport yourdecision‑making.Well organised and resilient, you can work under pressure to meet legal deadlines, use Microsoft Officeconfidently, and contribute positively as part of a team. Experience in claims handling and knowledge of a local government environment would be an advantage.
