Senior AV Coordinator
What you'll be doing
Are you calm under pressure, technically confident, and motivated by keeping vital live services running smoothly? Join the Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit (PBU) as a Senior AV Coordinator, helping ensure Parliament's debates, committees and events are broadcast seamlessly to audiences in the UK and around the world.
The Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit (PBU) is a small dynamic team responsible for televising, streaming, and archiving all public proceedings and events, operating and maintaining complex hybrid conferencing systems, and managing the House of Commons Annunciator service as well as a range of digital products. As a member of the operational team, you will:
- Ensure that audio and video is recorded for all public parliamentary debates and meetings, including scheduling and monitoring recordings within the Unit's media asset management system and assigning transmission paths for each event.
- Monitor live broadcast output and recordings, troubleshoot issues quickly as they arise, and escalate with third‑party providers where needed.
- Help ensure the smooth daily running of parliamentlive.tv by monitoring live streams and flagging any performance issues with the online video service contractor.
- Engage with and closely monitor all parliamentary business, publishing clear, accurate live updates via the Annunciator system for the Commons Chamber and Westminster Hall, and logging proceedings of both Houses.
- Carry out live single‑operator broadcast operations of Select Committee meetings, including occasional work away from the Parliamentary Estate.
- Facilitate archive requests and undertake simple editing tasks.
- Contribute to service ownership activities and project work alongside members of the PBU Senior Leadership Team.
You will also support hybrid and virtual proceedings, assist with sound and vision duties as required, respond to Member queries about the parliamentary video service, and help maintain subtitle corrections and edited uploads. Training for all technical duties will be provided.
Why join us?
In addition to your salary, we offer an attractive package of benefits, including:
- Generous annual leave starting at 30 days and increasing to 35 after one year.
- Enrolment in the excellent Civil Service pension scheme, with an average employer contribution of around 27%.
- Flexible working options that help you balance personal and professional commitments, including enhanced parental leave, caring leave and alternative working patterns.
What we're looking for.
- Experience working with audio and video broadcast, either live or with pre‑recorded material.
- Ability to react proactively to rapidly changing priorities in a live operational environment.
- A strong interest in current affairs and Parliament, and the ability to learn and retain names and faces (assessed at interview).
- Experience developing skills using a range of IT and broadcast technologies, including scheduling, monitoring or post‑production tools.
- Proven ability to work flexibly and inclusively within a coordinated team to deliver high‑quality service.
