Are you ready to start or continue your social work career in a fast-paced, supportive hospital team?
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Level 1 Social Workers to join our Hospital Social Work Team based at Lincoln County Hospital. Our team also supports patients across Northern Lincolnshire and Goole hospitals, including Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Hull and Goole, working closely with health colleagues to ensure safe, person-centred discharges.
This is an exciting opportunity for newly qualified or early career social workers to develop their skills in a dynamic environment while being supported by an experienced and welcoming team.
Our team prides itself on being supportive, collaborative and positive. We believe celebrating achievements is just as important as supporting the people we work with. Whether it’s sharing a success, learning from each other, our team culture helps us thrive in a busy hospital environment.
Why Hospital Social Work?
Hospital social work offers a unique and rewarding start to your social work career. Every day brings new challenges, learning opportunities, and the chance to make a real difference at critical moments in people’s lives.
Working in a hospital setting means you’ll develop strong skills in assessment, decision-making, and partnership working while supporting people and their families during times of change or uncertainty. You’ll work closely with doctors, nurses, therapists and community services, gaining valuable experience of multi-disciplinary working and seeing the immediate impact of your interventions.
For newly qualified and early career social workers, hospital social work provides:
Fast-paced learning with a wide variety of cases and experiences
Opportunities to develop strong Care Act practice and strengths-based assessments
Daily collaboration with health colleagues
The chance to support safe and person-centred hospital discharges, helping people regain independence and return home or move to the right support at the right time
Exposure to safeguarding, capacity, risk management, and complex decision-making in a supportive environment
You won’t be doing this alone. Our team is committed to supporting each other through shared learning, regular supervision, and a culture where questions and curiosity are welcomed.
Hospital social work is challenging, rewarding, and incredibly varied, making it a fantastic place to build confidence, develop your professional identity, and grow your career.
As a Level 1 Social Worker, you will:
Manage a caseload with appropriate supervision, developing your professional confidence and autonomy
Undertake Care Act 2014 assessments, care and support planning, and reviews
Work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers and professionals to identify strengths and promote independence
Contribute to safeguarding enquiries, ensuring the person’s voice and desired outcomes remain central
Work closely with health colleagues to support safe and timely hospital discharges
Identify wider needs such as housing, health or community support and work with partners to address them
Promote strengths-based practice and support people to build and maintain support networks
You will be supported by experienced practitioners and leaders, with opportunities to develop your practice, confidence and career progression within Adult Care.
Our standard working hours are:
Monday – Thursday: 8:45am – 5:15pm
Friday: 8:45am – 4:45pm
Our service also operates a weekend working rota, currently one weekend in four.
Weekend hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm
When you work a weekend, you will receive a day off during the week, helping to maintain a healthy work–life balance.
Closing date: 6th April 2026.
Join us and become part of a team that works hard, cares deeply, and celebrates success together.
