Proud to serve. Proud to keep justice going.
Our Administration Officers play a critical role, providing excellent telephony and administrative support to court users, judiciary, mediators and management.
About us
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice and is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our service users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice.
Our National Services (NS) Directorate manage centralised administrative and contact functions (telephone helpdesks) in HMCTS and we’re looking for individuals who are committed to public service and making a difference in people’s lives to deliver justice. If you are interested in developing a career with a real purpose, please apply.
Our roles
We are recruiting for a number of positions across several of our services which include Civil, Family, Tax and Probate in our Hagley Road office in Birmingham.
These opportunities include both administrative and telephony roles and the duties and responsibilities are outlined below and in the attached job description.
Successful candidates will be assigned to a role based on business need. You will not be able to request a specific role or service.
Job details
In administrative positions you will be assigned to a team to carry out a variety of general administrative duties to progress cases through the court / tribunal system or provide support to other functions within HMCTS. In some positions, role holders will have regular contact with court / tribunal users, including members of the Judiciary, mediators and the legal profession.
Where your role will be predominately telephone-based, you will be taking inbound calls from the public and sometimes legal representatives. You may also use email and webchat and undertake general administrative work. You need to be a confident communicator with the self-assurance to liaise with members of the public regarding complex and sensitive matters in a calm and professional manner. Customers calling are often in a difficult and stressful situation and therefore great importance is placed on handling calls with empathy and understanding.
Both telephony and administrative staff work within a team with regular management support. They are fast-paced positions that require attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and process casework efficiently and when dealing with the public each customer must be treated as an individual, managing your time effectively is an important aspect of this role. You will need to be resilient, keen to learn, and have the IT skills to adapt to new systems and technologies, as we’re constantly investing in digital solutions to improve the way we deliver justice.
Your skills and experience
Strong customer service skills with the confidence to support our customers via the telephone, webchat and email
Experience of working in an administrative role in a customer focussed environment
Proficient with IT and Microsoft Software packages
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Exceptional attention to detail
