Do you want more local driving and be a valued member of a delivery team? This may be the role for you. You will enjoy a varied role driving locally as well as building relationships with our regular customers.

Our drivers are the beating heart of our business and you will play a vital role in ensuring customers receive their deliveries on time and with a great service.

This is a 7 day operation, our shift patterns may include some weekend working.

Booker lorry drivers (HGV Class 1 or 2) are responsible for the safe and efficient transportation, loading, and unloading of goods from Booker branches to independent retailers, caterers, and customers. These roles are often physically demanding, involving manual handling of cages and items

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Driving & Deliveries: Safely driving HGVs, usually in a local or regional multi-drop capacity, ensuring products arrive on time and intact.
  • Loading & Unloading: Loading stock in the vehicle at the branch and unloading it at customer sites, often using tail lifts.
  • Physical Handling: Handballing products at delivery points, which can be physically demanding and occur in adverse weather conditions.
  • Compliance & Safety: Strictly adhering to HGV driving legislation, Working Time Regulations, tachograph compliance, and food safety standards (including, in some cases, monitoring freezer/fridge temperatures).
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Performing pre-use safety checks (defect checks) and reporting any faults to the transport department.
  • Customer Service: Acting as the \"face\" of Booker, providing excellent customer service, and collecting empty equipment from customers.
  • Paperwork: Accurately completing delivery notes, invoices, and electronic records via handheld devices (PDA)

Cat C / 18T Licence / Class 2

Previous experience of driving (at least two years)

Previous experience of delivery driving is preferred

Ability to carry out manual deliveries

Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive customer service attitude

Good level of literacy and numeracy
