Your new company
HMP Erlestoke is a Category C men's training and resettlement prison located near Devizes in Wiltshire. It is the only prison in the county and houses around 500 adult male prisoners, many serving longer or indeterminate sentences.
Your new role
As a Plumber / Mechanical Engineer (Level 2), you will be responsible for delivering planned and reactive maintenance across plumbing, heating, and mechanical systems. You will be required to carry out installations, testing, commissioning, repairs, and fault-finding to ensure systems operate safely and reliably.Your role will also involve undertaking survey inspections-including at height and in confined spaces-maintaining accurate logs, supervising contractors and prisoners where required, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, and supporting the effective running of the estate. You will play a key part in maintaining service levels, managing stock, contributing to local improvement initiatives, and maintaining excellent relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Full-time hours, Monday to Friday. PAYE: £20.28 per hour inclusive of holidayUmbrella: £23.66 p/h
What you'll need to succeed
An ideal candidate will have the below (Essential):
- NVQ Level 2 in a mechanical or plumbing discipline (or equivalent).
- Unvented Water Heater Vessel (G3) qualification (or willingness to undertake training provided).
- Experience working in building services, Hard FM, or the plumbing industry.
- The ability to prioritise tasks, follow safe systems of work, and maintain compliance with Health & Safety requirements.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain security standards in a sensitive working environment.
Desirable:
- Experience working on commercial or industrial heating and water systems.
- Familiarity with Water Supply Regulations and Legionella Control (L8).
- Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance processes.
- L8 Legionella awareness training (training can be provided if required).
