Crynodeb
Job Purpose
The Plant Fitter is responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of heavy plant machinery including crushers, screeners and excavators. The role ensures all equipment is maintained to a high standard, minimising downtime and supporting safe and efficient site operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out routine servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance on crushers, screeners and excavators, pumps and generators.
• Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical, hydraulic and basic electrical repairs.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns both in the workshop and on-site.
• Complete planned maintenance in line with manufacturer specifications and company schedules.
• Inspect machinery for wear and damage, identifying potential issues before failure occurs.
• Replace and repair components including bearings, belts, rollers, hydraulic hoses, pumps, motors and engines.
• Maintain accurate service and repair records.
• Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Conduct pre-delivery inspections and machine preparation when required.
• Assist with welding and fabrication repairs where necessary.
• Support continuous improvement in equipment reliability and workshop processes.
Skills and Experience
Essential
• Proven experience as a Plant Fitter, Heavy Plant Mechanic or similar role.
• Experience working on crushers, screeners and/or excavators. Also smaller items such as pumps and generators.
• Strong mechanical and hydraulic fault-finding skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements.
• Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
• Experience with brands such as Terex, Sandvik, Powerscreen, Finlay, CAT or Volvo.
• Welding and fabrication skills.
• Relevant NVQ Level 2/3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent.
• CSCS or CPCS card.
Personal Attributes
• Reliable and self-motivated.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexible approach to working hours when required.
• Committed to high standards of workmanship and safety.
