Location: Dumfries
Hours - Days, 40 hours a week, on a 3 week rotation. 5 days on, 2 days off, 5 days on, 2 days off, 10 days on, 4 days off, On-call element on third week.
What you'll do:
This position of Operator Technician (Industrial Steam Boilers) is located on a Client site in Dumfries. Working as part of a small team providing 24/7 operations, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the boiler facility. The Operator Technician (Industrial Steam Boilers) will be involved in working with, and assisting in improving, the site systems and will have responsibility for areas of site maintenance as directed.
You will be required to:
- Operate and monitor industrial steam boilers, associated plant equipment, fuel supply, and water distribution systems on a 24/7 basis as part of a small team
- Carry out routine and preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, and annual shutdown/inspection activities to keep all mechanical and electrical systems fully operational
- Conduct shift-based water quality analysis of boiler feed water, treated water, and blowdown to maintain levels within set parameters
- Complete accurate records, logs, reports, and handovers, ensuring compliance with legislation, OEM specifications, and company policies
- Maintain health, safety, and environmental compliance, including Permit to Work (PTW) procedures, Environmental Permit requirements, and reporting any incidents or non-conformances
- Participate in an on-call rota including 1 in 3 weekends, occasional travel to other sites, and ongoing personal development to enhance role-relevant skills
Ideally, we are looking for someone with industrial boiler experience, however, if you have a solid electromechanical engineering background with a good understanding of pressure systems or commercial MTHW, with Gas Safe, then please get in touch.
Experience you will need,
Essential:
- Strong Electromechanical experience with either a Mechanical or Electrical bias and a formally recognised Mechanical or Electrical trade qualification.
- IT literate demonstrating good numeracy and literacy skills.
- An in depth knowledge of Health & Safety practices.
- Full UK driving Licence.
Desirable:
- Be able to demonstrate skills working on steam boilers and associated equipment.
- Boiler Operations Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) Qualification.
- Industrial Gas Qualified, I-Gas Level 1 or 3.
- Gas Safe - Commercial MTHW boilers.
- Medium Risk Confined Space.
- PASMA.
- Health and Safety qualifications and awareness, risk assessment, method statement training, competence in issuing and use of all company Permit to Work systems would be preferential, however, training will be provided where appropriate.
