Responsibility for the daily coordination and management of the pretreatment service in radiotherapy; to ensure timely and appropriate care is delivered to the highest of standards. Act as an expert practitioner in treatment planning, providing specialist technical support on a range of planning techniques. Guide Oncologists, Clinical Scientists, technicians and representatives from manufacturers and external contractors on all clinical and operational aspects of the pre-treatment process. To promote high professional standards, acting as a role model within the team, ensuring consistency of practice while also being able to make evidence-based decisions. Provide leadership, supervision and support to the junior staff including regular 1-1s and appraisals. To undertake key HR management tasks, such as attendance management, recruitment and selections, and contribute the strategic aims of the overall radiotherapy service. Ensure that the training, education and competencies of radiographers and students in your clinical area is completed, recorded and maintained. To work closely with the multi-disciplinary team during the implementation of new techniques and developments within radiotherapy. Demonstrate sound judgement, personal responsibility and resilience in a demanding role with frequent interruptions and multiple priorities. Key Responsibilities: Clinical Educate, train and supervise radiographers on the safe use and effective operation of radiotherapy equipment as per manufacturers instructions and local guidelines Act as an expert practitioner, using professional expertise and evidence-based decision making to find solutions to non-routine scenarios and problems throughout the patient pathway Be competent to analyse and approve images following designated training and adhering to protocols Responsible for the accurate preparation, planning and treatment delivery for your allocated team Responsible for the accuracy of the pre-treatment activities, their ease of reproduction and to take responsibility for acquiring the optimum images using appropriate exposures Have an input into the maintenance and development of written procedures for all areas of the pre-treatment section, CT scanning and virtual simulation planning. To undertake cannulation and contrast injection as per the clinical protocols of the department Be responsible for accurate record keeping within your team Responsible for ensuring the daily and weekly QA checks of equipment is completed and equipment faults are reported & recorded promptly Act as an Expert Advisor in radiotherapy, collaborating with the relevant APs and Lead Radiographers on technical developments, technique changes and service improvement Undertake regular audit of practice and using results and wider guidance, ensure evidence-based practice is implemented within your clinical area Ensure all aspects of your service are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led
