This new SEO role will support the delivery of cross cutting geospatial analysis and data for DfT.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Spatial Data

You will support the central provision of authoritative spatial datasets for use across DfT. This will include:

  • Obtaining and providing authoritative spatial datasets from other organisations across government for use within DfT (ONS, Network Rail, GBR, NH, Transport Scotland, Defra, Environment Agency etc.).
  • Supporting the development of new authoritative transport datasets for use across DfT, including multi-modal data such as transport routing.
  • Working with Ordnance Survey to support the User Acceptance Testing of new and updated transport spatial data, ensuring it is fit for purpose and ready for use.
Digital

You will work with Digital Service to support the implementation and ongoing management of the department’s Geography Data Store.

You will also act as the lead representative working with Digital Service to ensure provision of the department’s GIS software and licensing needs.

Legal Responsibilities

The Public Sector Geospatial Agreement (PSGA) mandates controlled and restricted access to Ordnance Survey datasets.

You will lead governance and controls across the department to ensure adherence to these principles when working with PSGA data. This includes monitoring and overseeing the use of OS PSGA contract licensing for third parties and providing expert advice to modal areas on complex cases.

Geospatial Analysis

You will support the delivery of spatial analysis across transport modes, bringing geographical insight to support evidence-based decision making.

Geovisualisation

You will use cartography and geovisualisation techniques to present intelligence from cross-modal transport geographic datasets.

You will apply effective and engaging mapping techniques to add insight to policy development and delivery monitoring.

Engagement

You will support the G6 and G7 in running cross-departmental forums, including the DfT Geography Community and the Ordnance Survey Working Group.
