Adult Acquired Neurology (Acute and Community)
Band 6
12 months Fixed Term Contract
37.5 hours per week
Based at Tameside General Hospital, Ashton-under-Lyne
This post offers an exciting opportunity to work with patients with acquired communication, voice and swallowing difficulties in a range of settings, including hospital, Acute Stroke Unit, outpatient and in clients’ homes. There will be opportunity to provide community rehabilitation with MDT colleagues in the Community Neuro Rehab Team (CNRT) as part of your caseload.
The successful candidate will have completed dysphagia assessment and management competencies and have experience working independently in this field. Experience/training in videofluoroscopy would be an advantage.
We are a very friendly department offering regular staff meetings, clinical supervision and support from more senior therapists. You will also be able to continue your professional development.
We are looking for an enthusiastic therapist, eager to develop your professional skills with an acquired neurology client group.
Wherever possible the department will give serious consideration to requests for changes to the standard working pattern associated with the contracted hours for any post.
• Carries a personal caseload of adult clients and delivers a Specialist SLT service to clients individually referred.
• Assesses, diagnoses and treats, on a daily basis, patients with communication/swallowing difficulties resulting from acquired neurological conditions including patients with degenerative disease, strokes, communication impairment and voice problems.
• Provides supervision and advice in own specialist area to other therapists, assistants and students.
• Has completed RCSLT new starter competency schedule, has professional specialist knowledge and skills in adult neurology acquired through postgraduate SLT training, experience and increased depth and breadth of clinical competence

This position requires the post holder to be able to travel (often at short notice) between diverse clinical and non-clinical environments and bases, including patient’s homes, primary care facilities, community centres, hospitals, office spaces and residential/nursing homes, so access to reliable transport is essential. The post holder will be expected to complete several individual AM and PM clinical contacts a day carrying heavy and bulky specialist equipment, at separate addresses, to maintain provision of our services.
