Role: SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant (Unqualified)
Location: Bristol
Contract: Full-Time | Monday - Friday | 8:30am - 3:30pm
Pay: £89.38 per day

Support Young People Who Need It Most

Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting full-time Teaching Assistants to work in specialist SEN and SEMH schools across Bristol. These roles are available immediately, making them ideal for individuals who are ready to start work and make a real difference in education.

You will be supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them engage with learning, develop confidence, and succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

This role would suit anyone who is patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting young people, whether you are exploring a career in education, psychology, youth work, or looking to gain valuable school-based experience.

Key Responsibilities

As a Teaching Assistant in a specialist SEN/SEMH setting, your responsibilities may include:

• Supporting teachers in delivering structured and engaging lessons
• Working 1:1 or in small groups with pupils who require additional support
• Assisting students with emotional regulation, behaviour, and social development
• Helping create a calm, safe, and supportive learning environment
• Preparing classroom resources and adapting activities to suit individual learning needs
• Encouraging positive engagement and participation in lessons
• Supporting pupils with personalised learning plans

What We're Looking For

We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds. The most important qualities are empathy, reliability, and a willingness to support pupils with additional needs.

You will need:

• A genuine interest in working with children with SEN and SEMH needs
• A positive, patient, and proactive approach
• The ability to build strong relationships with pupils and staff
• Flexibility to support students with a variety of learning and behavioural needs
• An Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply (support provided)
• Completion of Level 2 Safeguarding Training (available through Teaching Personnel)

Previous experience with SEN, SEMH, youth work, care work, or behaviour support is beneficial but not essential.
