Crynodeb
We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Information Governance Officer to join our Information Governance Team on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis. This role is central to supporting Maidstone Borough Council as we prepare for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). You will play an important part in ensuring the Council’s information governance arrangements, policies, and systems are robust, up‑to‑date and capable of transitioning effectively into a new organisational landscape.
Working closely with the Information Governance Manager and Data Protection Officer, you’ll help strengthen the Council’s information governance arrangements to ensure organisational readiness for LGR and embed good information management practice during a period of significant change.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Supporting Data Protection audits and reviewing key governance records (Record of Processing Activities, Asset Register, and Retention Schedule).
• Updating information governance and complaints policies and helping to develop consistent procedures and guidance for use across the organisation.
• Supporting Data Protection Impact Assessments and the drafting of Information Sharing Agreements.
• Providing timely and accurate support for FOI, EIR, data protection requests, and data breach investigations.
• Maintaining high‑quality records relating to complaints, information risks, incidents, and requests.
• Contributing to reports for Corporate Leadership and Committees, ensuring information governance implications for LGR are identified and clearly communicated.
• Promoting an information governance culture and helping embed best practice across the organisation.
• Supporting the wider Information Governance Team as required at this important time of organisational change.
This is full time post working 37 hours per week on a fixed term contract for a period of 12 months.
About You:
You will bring knowledge or experience of information governance, data protection and records management, alongside the ability to communicate clearly, confidently and professionally with colleagues at all levels.
Highly organised and attentive to detail, you’ll be able to manage competing deadlines, analyse information, solve problems and use your initiative to move work forward. You’ll build positive working relationships, work effectively as part of a team, and remain adaptable in a fast‑paced environment undergoing significant change.
Relevant professional qualifications in Data Protection or Freedom of Information would be an advantage.
Why join us?
This is an excellent development opportunity for someone looking to strengthen their experience in information governance within a supportive and forward‑thinking council. You will help shape how information governance operates during one of the most significant periods of change in Maidstone’s governance arrangements.
