University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) has an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Endoscopist to join our expanding Endoscopy service. UHD is currently building a new 6-bed endoscopy unit at the Poole site. The Bournemouth site hosts a 6-room endoscopy unit, and there is also a satellite endoscopy unit at Wimborne Hospital with one procedure room. The successful candidate will be working cross-site.

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner, competent in lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, contributing to the effective delivery of endoscopy lists in line with JAG, BSG and Trust standards. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the role will involve close collaboration with consultant gastroenterologists, colorectal surgeons, nursing staff and the wider endoscopy workforce.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the assessment, consent, performance and reporting of lower GI endoscopic procedures, ensuring safe, evidence-based practice and excellent patient experience throughout the endoscopy pathway. They will participate in audit, service development, training and quality improvement initiatives, and contribute to maintaining JAG accreditation and achieving key performance indicators.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills, take on leadership responsibilities within the endoscopy unit, and contribute to the ongoing development of a modern, efficient endoscopy service.

Interview date: 7th April 2026
• Independently assess, consent and perform lower gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures in accordance with national guidelines (JAG, BSG, NHSBSP where applicable) and Trust policies.
• Provide safe, high-quality diagnostic and surveillance colonoscopy and/or flexible sigmoidoscopy, maintaining performance indicators in line with JAG standards.
• Undertake comprehensive pre-procedure assessment, including review of referrals, medical history, anticoagulation and bowel preparation, and make appropriate clinical decisions regarding fitness for procedure.
• Accurately document, interpret and report endoscopic findings, including appropriate management plans, histology requests and follow-up arrangements.
• Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team, ensuring clear explanation of procedures, findings and post-procedure care.
• Manage complications and adverse events within scope of practice, escalating appropriately and participating in incident reporting and learning processes.
• Contribute to clinical audit, service evaluation and quality improvement activities to support ongoing service development and maintenance of JAG accreditation.
• Support the effective running of the endoscopy service, including flexible working across lists, contributing to waiting-list management and service delivery priorities.

UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

UHD has active networks including Women’s, BAME, Pride, EU, Pro Ability, and Armed Forces. We support Disability Confident and Armed Forces Covenant interview schemes.

AI tools may be used, but applications must honestly reflect your own skills and experience. Integrity is key to our recruitment process.
