What skills and experience we're looking for

The school is warm, friendly and welcoming and provides a safe and nurturing environment in which all children are supported to reach their full potential, spiritually, intellectually, physically, creatively and socially.

The Governors are seeking to appoint a substantive Headteacher with evidence of successful strategic leadership and management experience as a Head or Deputy Head for primary age children and a proven track record of school improvement. Alongside the capacity and commitment to;

• Inspire, nurture and lead our children, as well as staff, in all aspects of School life.
• Actively support and develop the distinct Church of England ethos of our School.
• Engage parents and carers in both the achievement of their children and the challenge that they tackle.
• Communicate effectively with both adults and children.
• Drive improvement in the focus areas agreed with Governors, demonstrating secure knowledge of the Nursery, KS1 and KS2 curriculum.
• Partner with Governors to deliver the vision for the School.

If you have the vision to inspire pupils, staff and the school community and have excellent leadership skills then we look forward to receiving your completed application.

Visits to our school are encouraged and welcomed so that you can experience the culture and ethos for yourself. Please contact Mrs Helen Kent hkent@olivertomkinsschools.co.uk or call 01793 870471 should you wish to arrange this.

What the school offers its staff

Oliver Tomkins CE VA School is a happy and vibrant school, with pupils who are respectful and show genuine delight in each other’s achievements. We offer the opportunity to become part of a fun, dedicated and supportive team, children who demonstrate good motivation and a curriculum that provides memorable experiences.

Oliver Tomkins opened in September 1980 and is a hard federated two-form entry, Voluntary Aided School in the Diocese of Bristol, providing education for children from nursery up to the age of 11 years and the end of Key Stage 2.

Our main aim is to give all children the opportunity to develop their full potential. We welcome children of all faiths and none, with a range of backgrounds, abilities and talents.

Commitment to safeguarding

The school is committed to safer recruitment practice and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and the successful applicant will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service and 3 satisfactory references.
