Responsibilities
The Catering Manager is responsible for the whole academy catering provision, developing the service to deliver healthy, high-quality meals that meet Nutritional Standards. Duties include supervising and deploying catering staff, planning daily menus (including provision for special diets), and preparing and cooking a range of food items. This role manages the accurate cost control of catering revenue and expenditure, the security of all monies, and coordinates procurement with the Finance Team.
The manager ensures strict compliance with Food Safety, Health and Safety, and COSHH regulations, undertaking regular risk assessments and reporting all accidents. Additionally, the manager is responsible for staff recruitment, induction training, development coordination, and actively contributing to service development initiatives.
Qualifications
The role requires a Level 3 or equivalent Food Hygiene qualification and detailed knowledge of current food legislation regarding food hygiene and workplace health and safety. Candidates must demonstrate experience preparing, cooking, and presenting food to meet quality, cost, and safety standards, as well as the safe and correct use of general catering equipment.
Essential skills include the ability to effectively communicate, deliver a high standard of customer service, and competently construct menus and recipes. The successful applicant must be able to follow Codes of Practice, complete accurate administrative documents, and understand academy child safeguarding procedures. A satisfactory DBS check is required.
