About the Role
We're looking for a skilled and reliable Tractor Operator to join our Grounds Maintenance team, working across multiple school sites in the Huddersfield area. This is a hands-on, outdoor role where you'll operate tractor-mounted grass cutting equipment during the growing season and support general grounds maintenance work through the winter months.
If you enjoy working independently, take pride in your work, and can operate machinery safely and confidently, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
· Operate tractor-mounted mowing equipment across school sites and associated land.
· Carry out verge cutting, field cutting, and large-area mowing using tractor attachments.
· Conduct site checks before mowing and remove or report hazards to ensure safe operation.
· Use hand tools such as pruning saws to remove low branches or other obstacles.
· Perform daily safety and maintenance checks on tractors and equipment.
· Ensure safe machinery use at all times, especially on active school sites.
· Travel between multiple school locations as part of the scheduled work plan.
· Report any defects, damage, or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly.
· Maintain machinery cleanliness and functionality.
Winter Duties
When grass cutting reduces, you will support wider grounds maintenance tasks, including:
· Hedge cutting and pruning.
· General site clearance.
· Seasonal grounds work.
· Assisting the wider team on contract-based tasks.
Essential Requirements
· Proven experience operating tractors and mowing equipment.
· Lantra trained in Tractors & Attachments is essential.
· Full UK driving licence.
· Strong understanding of health and safety practices.
· Ability to work independently across multiple sites.
· Reliability and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Desirable Requirements
· Experience working on school sites or public sector contracts
· General grounds maintenance experience (beneficial for winter duties)
