We're recruiting for an experienced social housing Income Officer to join our client on a minimum 5+ month contract in Warrington, with the possibility of extension. This role offers hybrid working, with 2 x set office days per week, home working and some patch visits.
We are looking for candidates with recent experience of delivering rents, arrears recovery, and income management within the social housing sector.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of rent accounts, ensuring timely and effective arrears' recovery across a defined patch or portfolio.
- Proactively contact tenants via telephone, email, home visits and office appointments to discuss arrears and agree sustainable repayment plans.
- Provide advice around income maximisation, budgeting, welfare benefits and tenancy sustainment.
- Take appropriate enforcement action for non‑payment, including issuing notices and preparing cases for legal action when required.
- Work collaboratively with Housing Officers, Tenancy Sustainment, external agencies and money‑advice partners to deliver positive outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date case notes, payment arrangements and legal documentation.
- Support new tenants with sign‑ups, affordability checks, and early intervention to reduce risk of future arrears.
What you'll need to succeed
- Previous experience as an Income Officer, Rents Officer, Arrears Recovery Officer, or similar role within social housing.
- Strong knowledge of income collection processes, pre‑action protocols, welfare reform and best practice in arrears management.
- Confident communicator with excellent negotiation skills and the ability to manage challenging conversations sensitively.
- Experience preparing cases for legal action and understanding the enforcement process.
- Ability to manage a varied caseload independently, prioritising workload effectively.
