An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Theatre Coordinator in Ophthalmology. This busy role involves managing a large team & coordination of 24 theatre lists per week as well as pre assessment clinics.
The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills and strong ability to well under pressure in a fast-paced environment. An understanding of RTT and pathway tracking is essential, including a willingness to learn and problem solve, often on the spot.
Responsible for managing the administration associated with the ophthalmology theatre lists and cataract service. This will require liaison and negotiation with the appropriate consultants and other medical staff to balance the needs of urgent and routine cases and ensure the service meets Trust policies and procedures.
Service Delivery
• Responsible for liaising and negotiating with consultants and other medical staff at regular meetings to place appropriate patients on operating lists taking account of the level of urgency, waiting position and cancer targets, whilst working within the time constraints of the medical staff.
• Responsible for co-ordinating operating lists taking into account consultant leave and the covering of such lists by other medical staff to ensure maximum utilisation of capacity and prevent unnecessary cancellations.
• Coordination of theatres to ensure capacity meets demand, ensuring utilisation and facilitation of complex patients.
• Responsible for sending for all inpatients/day case patients either by phone or letter and carrying out the booking process to ensure targets are achieved, whilst dealing with patient’s personal circumstances, i.e. holidays/illness. Responsible for advising patients to stop specific medication prior to admission.
• To discuss deferral periods with patients and potential removal from waiting list.
