Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Multiskilled Engineer (Mechanical Bias) to join our team and deliver high‑quality building maintenance services across RAF Mildenhall. As a key member of a dedicated technical support team, you will ensure that all services are delivered in line with contractual requirements, legislative standards, and best practice. The role involves maintaining and optimising mechanical systems through a combination of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance to ensure asset reliability and operational efficiency.



Key Responsibilities:

-Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive/emergency maintenance across all Mechanical and HVAC systems, ensuring all required documentation is completed accurately and on time.

-Diagnose faults and undertake repairs within agreed response times.

-Conduct routine checks and repairs on installations including ventilation systems, fan motors, belts, filters, heating/cooling systems, and water system assets.

-Ensure all maintenance activities comply with relevant Health & Safety legislation and company policies (e.g., fire regulations, COSHH, PPE, safe working practices).

-Maintain plant rooms, equipment, and services to ensure they remain clean, safe, and secure.

-Ensure all assets are maintained in accordance with O&M manuals and contractual obligations.

-Assist and collaborate with engineers, subcontractors, supervisors, and clients to support proactive maintenance and service delivery.

-Supervise visiting subcontractors to ensure quality standards and full Health & Safety compliance.

-Prioritise workload effectively while assisting colleagues as required.

-Respond to client concerns and maintain high standards of customer service.

-Support energy‑reduction initiatives and adopt a flexible approach to supporting additional sites when needed.

-Participate in ongoing training, development, and appraisal activities.

-Undertake additional duties in line with capability as required.

-Work safely, diligently, and in accordance with company procedures and contractual timeframes.



Essential Qualifications and Experience:

-Holds a full UK driving licence (with fewer than 6 points).

-City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant mechanical discipline.

-Multi‑skilled engineering experience with strong focus on HVAC and building services.

-Practical experience in maintenance, testing, and fault finding across a range of mechanical and building services equipment (heating, hot water, ventilation, refrigeration, environmental systems, electrical power and distribution, and public health systems).

-Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation, statutory building compliance, Permit to Work systems, and safe working practices.

-Ability to diagnose, anticipate, and repair faults effectively.

-Proactive approach with a strong focus on quality service delivery and customer care.

-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively at all levels.

-Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

-Capable of completing all required documentation accurately and promptly.

-Ability to work independently and proactively with strong organisational skills.



Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

-Unvented hot water qualification and experience with hot water/heating systems, chillers, air conditioning, or refrigeration systems.

-HVAC-related certification such as C&G 2079 F‑Gas (or equivalent) and/or gas qualifications.

-IOSH or similar Health & Safety qualification.

-18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations.

-NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation and/or Heating & Ventilation.

-C&G 2391‑52 Inspection & Testing qualification.

-Compressor training or experience working with compressor systems.

Additional Information:

-May require manual handling, working at heights, and working in confined spaces.

-MOD Security Clearance and DBS Standard Check are required.

-National security vetting normally requires:



-3 years UK residency for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC)

-5 years for Security Clearance (SC)

Additional Information

MOD security clearance and DBS Standard required. To meet national security vetting requirements, you will normally need to have been resident in the UK for at least 3 years to gain a Counter Terrorist Check, 5 years for Security Clearance and 10 years for Developed Vetting prior to the date of application. All Developed Vetted posts are required to be UK Nationals.

Proof of right to work in UK is essential.
