We are seeking a Community Centre Manager to provide consistent leadership and coordination. This hands on, people focused role suits someone who enjoys working with communities, supporting volunteers, and helping a local centre grow and thrive.

Qualifications Required
Essential – Qualification by Experience
• Experience managing or coordinating community facilities, services, or activities.
• Experience overseeing building safety, basic facilities management, and compliance.
• Experience supervising, coordinating, or supporting staff and/or volunteers.
• Ability to organise and prioritise work flexibly across different days and times.
• Confident communication skills with a wide range of people.
• Experience working constructively with trustees, management committees, or boards (or ability to do so with support).
• Basic IT skills, including email and simple documents.
• Understanding of safeguarding and health & safety in a community setting.
Desirable
• Experience with basic financial administration (budgets, petty cash, invoices, bookings income).
• Experience in a community, voluntary, or charitable organisation.
• Experience supporting or working alongside trustees or governance bodies.

Primary Purpose of the Role
The Community Centre Manager leads the day to day operation of Nettlesworth Community Centre and the Community Connections Hub. The postholder ensures the centre is welcoming, inclusive, safe, and well managed. Responsibilities include overseeing activities and bookings, supporting volunteers, coordinating training and publicity, and ensuring the building remains compliant and fit for purpose. The role works in partnership with the Board of Trustees and contributes to the charity’s aims and objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Centre Leadership and Operations
• Provide day to day operational management of the centre.
• Work collaboratively with Trustees to ensure activities align with strategic direction.
• Act as the main point of contact for volunteers, group leaders, partners, contractors, and community members.
• Work with the bookings secretary to coordinate centre run groups, activities, and room usage.
Volunteer Support and Development
• Recruit, support, and retain volunteers.
• Provide clear guidance, encouragement, and ongoing support.
• Coordinate training to build confidence, skills, and capacity.
• Foster a positive, inclusive volunteer culture.
Community Engagement and Activities
• Develop and expand centre run groups and activities in response to local need.
• Encourage inclusive community participation and engagement.
• Support partnerships with local organisations and groups.
Publicity and Communications
• Support publicity and communications, including newsletters, noticeboards, and the website.
• Promote activities, events, and opportunities to residents and stakeholders.
Building Oversight, Health & Safety, and Compliance
• Carry out routine building checks to ensure the centre is safe and welcoming.
• Liaise with contractors and service providers to report issues, arrange repairs, and follow up actions.
• Work within existing compliance arrangements and SLAs, ensuring inspections and records are completed.
• Coordinate with cleaning staff to ensure the building remains ready for use.
• Coordinate room setup and availability (not responsible for cleaning or maintenance tasks).
People Management
• Manage recruitment, supervision, performance, attendance, and conduct of direct reports.
• Provide regular supervision, guidance, and development support.
• Promote consistent practice and clear communication of trustee priorities.
• Model the values of Nettlesworth Community Centre and provide visible, approachable leadership.
Professional and Technical Expertise
• Coordinate or support activities, services, or projects in a community or customer facing setting.
• Work supportively with volunteers and community members.
• Prioritise work flexibly and respond to changing needs.
• Communicate confidently with volunteers, residents, partners, and contractors.
• Liaise with external organisations to report issues and track actions.
• Carry out routine building checks and identify issues requiring follow up.
• Use basic IT tools effectively.
Knowledge & Understanding
• Understand the role of community centres in supporting local people and reducing isolation.
• Understand the respective roles of trustees and staff.
• Know health and safety requirements in a community setting.
• Understand safeguarding principles and responsibilities.
Organisational Performance and Compliance
• Ensure required health & safety checks are completed and remedial action taken.
• Follow safeguarding, data, and compliance policies.
• Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion.
• Follow financial regulations and procedures.
• Maintain accurate records and produce reports as required.
• Represent Nettlesworth Community Centre positively and build strong relationships with trustees and volunteers.
Your duties may vary within the broad remit of the role and grade, and you may be required to undertake reasonable additional tasks.
