The Orthopaedic Service provides a comprehensive elective and trauma service to a large and diverse population, with tertiary referral links across the region. The service works closely with neighbouring Trusts and independent sector providers to support elective recovery and waiting list management.
The knee service delivers a full range of soft tissue knee procedures, including arthroscopy, meniscal surgery and ligament reconstruction. The post holder will play a key role in high-volume elective knee activity, with a focus on reducing long-wait pathways and improving patient flow across outpatient and surgical services.
The service is supported by a multidisciplinary team, with close collaborative working across radiology, anaesthetics, physiotherapy and rehabilitation services to ensure safe and effective patient care.
The post holder will contribute to outpatient clinics, elective theatre lists and multidisciplinary decision-making, working closely with consultant knee colleagues and the wider Orthopaedic team. Opportunities exist to support service development and elective recovery initiatives during the contract period.
Orthopaedic trauma is managed by the trauma service; however, the post holder will work collaboratively with trauma colleagues where appropriate.
This 12-month fixed-term post is suited to a consultant seeking a focused elective role within a supportive team, contributing to service resilience, elective recovery and improved patient outcomes.
The post holder will be based within the Orthopaedic Service and will deliver consultant-level elective knee care across designated Trust sites in line with service requirements. The post holder will join an established Orthopaedic team and work closely with consultant colleagues, specialty doctors, advanced practitioners and the wider multidisciplinary team.
This is a12-month fixed-term consultant post, established to support elective recovery and address waiting list pressures within the soft tissue knee service. The post holder will manage the full range of soft tissue knee conditions, including arthroscopy, meniscal surgery and ligament reconstruction, and will be expected to manage the generality of elective knee pathology.
The post holder will contribute to:
• Consultant-led outpatient clinics
• Elective operating lists
• Multidisciplinary working and clinical decision-making
• Service improvement and elective recovery initiatives
There isno formal on-call commitment. Routine trauma is managed by the trauma service; however, the post holder is expected to work collaboratively with trauma and infection colleagues and provide cross-cover support in line with service needs.
The post holder will participate in clinical governance, audit, teaching and supervision of junior medical staff, and will comply with Trust requirements for appraisal, revalidation and continuing professional development.
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
• high-quality care for all,
• being a great place to work,
• partnerships for impact, and
• research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
• we are compassionate,
• we are proud,
• we are inclusive, and
• we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
