The Project Delivery and Major Events Directorate brings together three core functions: Project Delivery, Major and Commemorative Events, and Incident Response.

We provide assurance and support for major projects, programmes, and policy initiatives and lead the delivery of specific major projects and events.

This role sits within the newly established DCMS Major Events Policy Team. The team addresses cross-cutting policy issues that affect the operational delivery of major events across DCMS sectors, and will develop strategic relationships with the major event industry and relevant Government Department partners to support economic growth across the major events sector as a whole.

The Major Events Policy Lead will:

  • Establish a cross-departmental function to address cross-cutting issues impacting major events (e.g., legislation, licensing, funding, safety, security, evaluation, legacy).
  • Provide strategic coordination and advice to seniors, supporting a unified ‘One DCMS’ approach and shared awareness of policy/operational issues.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with major events industry partners and promote cross-government collaboration.
  • Maintain effective relationships with DBT, FCDO, CO, Home Office, MHCLG, and other relevant departments.
  • Lead the government response to the DCMS Select Committee Inquiry on Major Events.
  • Develop a coordinated stakeholder engagement plan, including implementing clear DCMS governance.
  • Oversee the continued growth of the DCMS professional network for major events to enhance departmental join-up, capability, and resilience.
