Practice Leader: LAKJ
Hourly Rate: £13.20 (+ 40p complex service +additional pay factor)
Hours: 40 Hours

Location: Plymouth

Havencare is a forward-thinking and growing charity. We have been making a difference for 35 years, changing the lives of people who have learning disabilities, autism, brain injuries, and other support needs. Our big aims include every person having a home that is right for them, and support for the life they choose.

At Havencare, first and foremost, we are looking for outstanding people who align with our values of Transparency, Quality and Engagement.

An understanding of positive behaviour support (PBS) and leading PBS in practice would be an advantage, although not essential because we can develop these skills and experience with the right person who has the attitude and aptitude to learn and deliver at this level.

About the Role

You will work on-shift, leading your team in outstanding practice. You will lead the principles of “nothing about me without me”, ensuring the supported person’s voice (behaviours, expressions, actions, words) is heard, and they are leading their support planning, delivery, and review.

About LAKJ

LAKJ is a male in his mid-thirties who lives in the Keyham area of Plymouth. He has learning disabilities and communicates in his own unique way, so he relies on his team of Support Workers to take the time to understand and learn his preferred methods of communication.

LAKJ experiences demand avoidance and can feel anxious a lot of the time so he needs a consistent and dedicated team who are patient, willing to learn about him as an individual and able to support him in a calm and understanding way. Building trust is really important for LAKJ and the right person will be someone who is happy to take the time to develop a positive and supportive relationship with him.

LAKJ enjoys spending time at home, relaxing with staff, watching TV and films and treating himself to a takeaway. He also enjoys going out for walks or going out for a drive and more recently his started going out for lunch in his local community. Family plays a very important role in LAKJ’s life, and he looks forward to regular visits from them.

At times LAKJ can find the world around him confusing and overwhelming. Because of this he benefits from a team who are considerate, compassionate and patient, and who can support him feel safe, build his confidence and manage his anxieties. We are looking for someone who is reliable, caring and committed- someone who will take the time to get to know LAKJ, earn his trust and become part of the supportive team around him.

About You:

We are looking for a patient, calm natured individual who is comfortable sitting quietly and using compassionate, considerate approaches to gently engage someone in meaningful activities. The ideal candidate has a genuine passion for living life fully and helping others experience more than simply a safe existence. You will bring a natural curiosity about neurodiverse human behaviour and a non-judgmental mindset, focusing on understanding why something has happened rather than just what has happened. As a confident and adaptable leader, you will know when to lead from the front, support from the back or guide from the centre of your team- depending on the situation you will be able to investigate situations thoroughly, listen to all perspectives, analyse information, and develop or adapt ways of working when needed. Most importantly, you will thrive on working closely with the person’s family, wider networks, and colleagues- collaborating and co-producing with the expertise of others to create a truly holistic, person-led service.

We welcome applications from individuals who have a minimum of 2 year’s UK experience supporting people with similar needs in a support worker role and who may now be looking to take the next step in their career. We would also be keen to hear from candidates who bring previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role and are passionate about using that experience to guide and develop a supportive, person-centred team.
