As the public face of our properties, you’ll provide a warm, friendly welcome, give information about the property, answer questions and make sure everyone has an enjoyable and memorable visit.
Concealed under the long sloping roof of this medieval building is a fully restored, working corn mill where visitors can learn about the history of the mill and witness the machinery in action. This is an exciting opportunity to work in special place with a team who pride themselves on being dynamic, highly motivated and passionate.
As the largest conservation charity in Europe, we work hard to raise funds so that we can continue to care for all the heritage in our trust. Visitors are a vital part of what we do, so you’ll be responsible for ensuring that you provide an excellent service to all our visitors, every day.
Salary: £13.25 per hour. The advertised salary for this role will be in effect from 1st April.
Contract/duration: Fixed term contract until 26-Sep-2026
Hours/working pattern: The hours advertised for this role is reflective of 12 months, however the actual hours you’ll be required to work for this role are 85. The amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in equal instalments over the term of your contract.
This is an average of 4 hours a week, but during busy periods and to cover holiday this may alter. The working pattern is a Thursday and/or Saturday 12.30pm to 4.30pm.
Interview date: 15th April 2026
Start date: 30th April - if successful you will be required to attend a full day first aid training on 12th May.
For this role, you’ll need to complete our online assessment instead of using a C.V. or online application form. This will help us understand more about your strengths and give you more information on the role.
Reporting to the Welcome Managers, you’ll be part of a team of Welcome and Service Team Members working at Nether Alderley Mill.
Day to day, you will be working alongside a dedicated volunteer team to deliver a great all-round customer service experience to our visitors, welcoming them to the mill. You’ll be on hand to answer any queries and listen to what our visitors need so you can share the right information, along with promoting and selling membership to our visitors. Your role is to make sure our visitors have the best day possible.
Great visitor experiences are in our nature, and we believe everyone should feel welcomed, appreciated and more engaged because of the excellent service you provide. This role would suit anyone with enthusiasm for delivering great customer service.
You’ll be asked to confidently sell membership and gift aid on entry, as well as work to our targets. You’ll also be responsible for answering queries and making sure visitors can find everything they need for their visit. When interacting with our customers, you’ll inform them of the amazing work we are doing and what their money is funding, promoting local projects or our national strategy.
You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what’s possible in this role.
