What skills and experience we're looking for
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching, Learning & Assessment
• Model exemplary early years practice, balancing child-initiated play with high-impact "teachable moments."
• Lead the design of stimulating learning environments (indoor and outdoor) that function as a "third teacher" to promote independence.
• Maintain a mastery of the Tapestry platform to record high-quality observations, track developmental milestones, and ensure all assessments are robust and accurate.
• Utilise Tapestry as a primary tool for parental engagement, providing regular, meaningful updates to families to bridge the gap between home and school learning.
• Work closely with Teacher of the Deaf (ToD), SENDco and named adults to adapt communication and resources for SEND and hearing-impaired pupils where necessary.
Planning & Provision
• Collaborate closely with the Classroom Teacher and the wider EYFS team to contribute to short and medium-term planning, ensuring a cohesive approach across the four-form entry.
• Lead the setup of high-quality continuous and enhanced provision that inspires curiosity, provokes thought, and maintains high levels of child engagement.
• Support EYFS practitioners in identifying and creating "invitations to play" that challenge children and align with their current interests and developmental needs.
• Ensure the physical environment is consistently refreshed and managed to spark awe and wonder, encouraging children to explore and lead their own learning.
Leadership & Team Support
• Support the Teaching Assistants with their understanding and application of Development Matters.
• Take responsibility for a specific area of the EYFS provision (e.g., Lead for Early Mathematics, Outdoor Learning, or Sensory Circuits).
• Ensure school policies regarding behavior, health and safety, and inclusion are consistently applied across the year group.
Inclusion & Communication
• Actively use and promote British Sign Language (BSL) and other visual communication aids (e.g., Makaton or PECS) to support an inclusive environment.
• Assist the class teacher in identifying children with additional needs.
Parental Engagement
• Act as a senior point of contact for families, conducting home visits where necessary and join parent workshops on EYFS milestones when appropriate.
• Ensure a consistent flow of information to parents via digital portfolios, ensuring families feel empowered and informed about their child's progress.
