The role includes planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, minor improvement works, and supporting other trades to ensure essential services remain fully functional with minimal disruption to clinical departments. You will liaise with senior clinical staff to coordinate work safely and sensitively, particularly in patient‑facing areas. You will be expected to interpret technical drawings, work to statutory and Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) requirements, supervise contractors or apprentices when necessary, and maintain accurate records, reports, and certification. The position also requires participation in on‑call rotas, shift cover, and emergency response duties, including support during adverse weather and urgent plant failures.
This role involves working in challenging environments-including confined spaces, contaminated areas, high‑risk clinical spaces, and locations with increased infection‑control requirements-while maintaining exceptional standards of safety, professionalism, and workmanship. High levels of dexterity, concentration, autonomy, and technical judgement are essential.
This role includes shift relief, on call and shift work.

  • Proven ability to diagnose complex faults, analyse issues, and interpret technical engineering drawings.
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in environments that may be contaminated or unpleasant.
  • Able to work independently, manage workloads effectively, and respond quickly and professionally to emergency situations.
  • Experience maintaining an industrial or commercial plant; NHS or other critical‑environment experience is highly desirable.
