Do you take pride in high standards, attention to detail and supporting young people to thrive?If so, we’d love you to join our Supported Learning team as our new Catering Technician, working across two fully equipped training kitchens in our Gateway building.About the RoleOur practical kitchens are central to the Supported Learning curriculum.To run safely, efficiently and in full compliance with health, safety and hygiene regulations, they require dedicated technical oversight.This new role has been created to ensure both kitchen environments meet all statutory requirements while enabling our students to learn, practise and succeed in a safe and supportive space.The Catering Technician will play a vital part in the smooth running of our practical sessions, supporting both staff and students and ensuring that teaching time is protected.Key ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for the day-to-day technical operation of both kitchens, including:Health, Safety & ComplianceCompleting daily health and safety checksMaintaining COSHH compliance and accurate record-keepingEnsuring safe storage, monitoring and handling of knives and hazardous equipmentOverseeing correct set-up and shut-down proceduresMaintaining allergen-safe practices and preventing cross-contaminationChecking student allergies and sourcing appropriate ingredientsOperational & Technical SupportOrdering food, ingredients and consumablesManaging stock rotation and storage across both kitchensSetting up the kitchens before practical sessionsCleaning and maintaining large equipmentSupporting students during practical lessonsOverseeing end-of-day cleaning, tidying, mopping and kitchen shut-downEnsuring the kitchens consistently meet all hygiene, safety and compliance standardsCarrying out occasional additional duties that support the smooth running of the departmentWhy This Role MattersThis post is essential to:Ensure both kitchens operate safely and meet all legal requirementsProtect teaching time by allowing lecturers to transition promptly to theory sessionsProvide consistent allergen-safe practice for students with dietary needsSupport high-quality learning experiences in busy, high-risk environmentsCreate a sustainable and efficient operational model for the departmentAbout YouWe’re looking for someone who is:Highly organised and proactiveConfident in managing health and safety proceduresKnowledgeable about food hygiene and allergen management (or willing to train)Comfortable working in busy, practical environmentsSupportive, patient and committed to helping students succeedAble to work independently and as part of a teamExperience in catering, hospitality, food technology, or technical support roles is desirable, but training will be provided for the right candidate.For further details on this post which the job description and person specification cannot answer for you, please contact Zubia Haque (Head of Faculty) on Zubia.Haque@nottinghamcollege.ac.ukInterviews /Assessments are planned for: week commencing 13th April 2026.Why Join usCompetitive salary – £24,840 to £25,230FTE.
