Planning Application Manager
Shrewsbury
Permanent
£30,000 - £35,000 Depending on experience
Monday-Friday

We are a well-established and growing planning consultancy based in Shrewsbury, working across Shropshire, the West Midlands and beyond. We provide professional planning advice to developers, landowners, housing associations and private clients, supporting a wide range of residential, commercial and mixed-use developments.

Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit a Planning Application Manager to join our team and support the delivery of planning applications from initial enquiry through to submission and determination.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within a supportive consultancy environment, working closely with an experienced Planning Director while gaining responsibility for managing multiple projects and acting as a key contact for clients, planning authorities and technical consultants.

The Role
• Support and manage planning applications across a variety of development projects, working closely with clients, consultants and local authorities to ensure applications are prepared and submitted efficiently.
• Be involved throughout the full planning process from early client discussions and site reviews through to preparing documentation, coordinating technical reports and submitting applications.
• Play an important role in ensuring projects progress smoothly within planning timeframes, typically managing applications through the process within approximately 12 weeks.

Key Responsibilities
• Managing and coordinating planning applications including full, outline, reserved matters, discharge of conditions and change of use
• Preparing planning statements and supporting documentation
• Liaising with Local Planning Authorities, statutory consultees and other stakeholders
• Supporting clients with planning advice and application strategy
• Coordinating technical consultants including ecology, transport and drainage specialists
• Reviewing development proposals and undertaking site appraisals where required
• Monitoring project timelines and ensuring planning submissions meet deadlines
• Maintaining strong communication with clients throughout the planning process

About You
We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in planning and development and is keen to take on increasing responsibility within a consultancy environment.

• You will ideally have:
• Previous experience within planning consultancy or a local authority planning team
• Experience supporting or managing planning applications
• A good understanding of the UK planning system and development management process
• A degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning, Architecture, Environmental Science or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
• Strong written skills with the ability to prepare planning documentation and reports
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
• A proactive, client-focused approach
• MRTPI status or working towards this would be beneficial but is not essential
• A full UK driving licence

What We Offer
• Salary of £30,000 – £35,000 depending on experience
• Support towards professional development and RTPI accreditation
• Opportunity to work closely with an experienced Planning Director
• Exposure to a wide range of development projects
• Clear opportunities for career progression
• A friendly and collaborative consultancy environment
