To ensure a high quality antenatal and newborn screening service is provided for women and families within the resources available by developing, reviewing and implementing programmes in line with national evidence/recommendations.
To provide leadership within the antenatal and newborn screening and counselling service at Nottingham NHS Trust and establish an infrastructure that will deliver a level of service, which is equitable, evidence based and consistent with the recommendations and standards of the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC)
Towork,closelywiththeQuality Risk Safetyteamandparticipateininvestigationsof
antenatalandnewbornscreeningincidentsandsharelearningfromincidentsandchanges in practice with Staff.
Tooperateandmonitorallfailsafesystemtoidentify,asearlyaspossible,mothersand babies that may have missed or where screening results are incomplete.
To liaise with NHS England (NHSE) and Quality Assurance (QA) and participate fully in nationalQualityAssuranceprocesses,co-operateinundertakingad-hocauditsandreviews as requested by QA teams and respond in a timely manner to their recommendations.
Workcollaborativelywiththeeducationleadtoensurethathealthprofessionalsinvolved in antenatal and newborn screening keep up to date with nationally approved training programmes, maintain professional registration where appropriate and comply with safeguarding requirements.
Provideandsupporttheantenatalandnewbornscreeningataservice-basedlevelwithin the maternity service.ToactasaSpecialistMidwifeinthefieldofantenatalandnewbornscreeninganddiagnosis.
Toprovideadviceandassistanceforhealthcareprofessionalsin thecareof clients undergoing screening.
Maintain clear and accurate records of care given. Maintain records of
women with pregnanciesaffectedbyabnormalANNBSscreening
resultstoensurespecialistcareand treatment including results and
outcomes are documented and auditable.
Undertaketheleadershipandcoordinationofadesignated teamliaising
withmidwifery, medical, nursing and any other colleagues, as
appropriate.
Manage the rota for all staff within the antenatal and newborn
screening team whererequired,includingmonitoringsicknessand
absenceof staffandtakingactionasappropriate.
Practicewithinthepolicies,procedures,protocols andguidelinesagreedbytheNUH Trust,theNursingandMidwiferyCouncil(NMC)andthematernity service.
Report any possible risks or criticaladverse incidents arising fromthe
screening service through the clinicalrisk management process.
To operate and maintain failsafe systems that can identifyas earlyas
possible, mothers andbabiesthatmayhavemissedorwherescreening
resultsareincomplete.
