Working Hours & Pay
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday


    • Own Transport due to location
  • Hourly Rate: £14.28 per hour


  • Overtime: May be available depending on operational requirements.


    Job Overview

    The Shunter Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of vehicles, trailers, and equipment within the depot or yard. The role ensures trailers are correctly positioned for loading and unloading while maintaining high safety and operational standards.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Safely move and position trailers within the yard or depot.


    • Attach and detach trailers from shunter units.


    • Ensure vehicles and trailers are parked in designated areas.


    • Assist with loading bay allocation and trailer movements for warehouse operations.


    • Conduct daily vehicle safety checks and report defects.


    • Maintain accurate records of trailer movements where required.


    • Ensure compliance with site safety rules and traffic management procedures.


    • Communicate effectively with warehouse staff, transport planners, and drivers.


    • Keep the yard organised, ensuring access routes remain clear and safe.


    • Support general yard duties when required.


      Skills and Experience
      • Previous experience in a shunting, yard driver, or HGV driving role preferred.


      • Good understanding of yard safety procedures.


      • Ability to manoeuvre large vehicles safely in confined spaces.


      • Strong communication and teamwork skills.


      • Good awareness of health and safety regulations.


      • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.


        Qualifications
        • Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence preferred (or experience operating shunter vehicles).


        • Valid Driver CPC (if applicable).


        • Shunter or yard experience is advantageous.

            Working Conditions
            • Work primarily takes place outdoors in a busy depot or yard environment.


            • PPE must be worn in operational areas at all times.
