Head Gardener & Estate - Historic Estate in North West Scotland
We are seeking an experienced Head Gardener to lead the development and maintenance of a stunning 40-acre historic garden and estate on the Isle of Skye, known as the "Garden of Skye".
This is a unique opportunity to oversee the redevelopment and enhancement of this breathtaking property, with features including mature trees, ponds, and a walled garden. The gardens are open to the public, making this a key role in showcasing one of Scotland's most beautiful locations.
As Head Gardener, you will manage a small team of dedicated staff to ensure the highest presentation standards are maintained across the historic landscape. Responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive garden maintenance and improvement plan
- Overseeing all aspects of the gardens and surrounding area, including plant care, landscaping, and project management
- Liaising with the estate management team on wider property development initiatives
- Delivering an exceptional visitor experience
The ideal candidate will have extensive plant knowledge, strong management skills, and a passion for preserving historic gardens and trees. A full clean driving license and relevant qualifications for operating machinery are essential.
This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week, 5 days) with a competitive salary, starting Spring 2026. Accommodation may also be included as part of the role.
If you have the skills and experience to excel as our Head Gardener, we'd love to hear from you.
