Senior Residential Childcare Officer – Fenham, Newcastle

Job Type: Full Time

Salary: £28,641.60 per annum

Our client is seeking a Senior Residential Childcare Officer, also referred to as a Senior Residential Therapeutic Parent, to join their warm and welcoming children’s home in Fenham, Newcastle.

You’ll support children aged 11–18 who may have experienced trauma or emotional/behavioural difficulties, providing stability, guidance, and encouragement. You’ll help them develop confidence, secure attachments, and independence while mentoring and supporting other staff members.

Essential

• Level 3 Children & Young People’s Workforce Diploma (required minimum)
• Understanding of child development, therapeutic parenting, and safeguarding
• Ability to manage challenging behaviours with empathy and professionalism
• Strong teamwork, communication, organisational, and time-management skills
• Willingness to work flexible shifts (day, evening, night)
• Full UK driving licence and Right to Work in the UK

Desirable

• 2+ years’ experience in a supervisory role within children’s residential care

The Role

• Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home
• Provide a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for children and young people
• Build positive relationships and act as a Senior Residential Therapeutic Parent role model
• Mentor, guide, and support other staff members in their practice
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and care documentation
• Work as part of a team to maintain high standards of care in line with safeguarding and Ofsted expectations

• Encourage young people to express their views and participate in decisions about their lives
• Support participation in education, hobbies, activities, and community opportunities
• Transport young people to education, appointments, and family contact
