JOB TITLE: Phlebotomist BASED AT: The Ridgeway Surgery REPORTS TO: Practice Manager / GP Partners Job Summary The Phlebotomist will support the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care within the practice. Working under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional, the post holder will perform a range of clinical duties including phlebotomy, blood pressure measurement, ECGs, NHS Health Checks, vaccinations (such as flu and B12), and general health promotion. The HCA will contribute to the smooth running of the practice, maintaining high standards of infection control, record keeping, and patient care. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care Undertake and accurately record physiological measurements including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, weight, and BMI. Perform venepuncture, ECGs, NHS Health Checks, and administer flu and B12 injections (following appropriate training and competency assessment). Prepare and maintain clinical environments and equipment before, during, and after patient care. Support chronic disease management and health promotion initiatives. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation using EMIS and other systems. Communication Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, carers, and colleagues. Recognise and adapt communication methods to meet individual patient needs. Liaise with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, patient-centred care. Governance and Quality Follow practice policies, protocols, and infection control procedures. Contribute to quality improvement activities such as audits and service development. Identify and manage risks appropriately, escalating concerns when necessary. Maintain confidentiality at all times and uphold patient privacy and dignity. Personal and Professional Development Participate in induction, mandatory training, and relevant CPD opportunities. Hold the Care Certificate and demonstrate competence across core skills for healthcare support workers. Engage in annual appraisal and take responsibility for ongoing learning and competence. Work within scope of practice and under the supervision of a registered professional. Health, Safety, and Equality Adhere to all health and safety policies and promote a safe working environment. Understand safeguarding principles and local referral pathways for vulnerable adults and children. Treat all patients and colleagues with respect, valuing diversity and individual differences. Other Duties Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support the smooth and effective operation of the practice.
