We are recruiting to the following posts:
x1 Consultant Practitioner - Kinship & Permanence (37 hours, Permanent)
£50,075 - £56,269 (Includes £6,000 market Supplement)

x1 Social Worker – Kinship and Special Guardianship Order Support (37 hours, Permanent)
£47,152 - £52,075 per year ( includes £8,000 Market Supplement)

x1 Social Worker - Kinship Carer & Special Guardian Assessor (37 hours, Permanent)
£47,152 - £52,075 per year ( includes £8,000 Market Supplement)

Reading Borough Council (RBC) Children’s Services are improving outcomes for Reading's children, young people and families. Our responsibility is to deliver quality children's services, early help, education and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) services in the borough.

Our Children’s Services have recently been taken back into the Council, and we are now looking to further develop our kinship & permanence services during 2026, including developing our Kinship Local Offer.

Our Kinship & Permanence Service is headed up by a dedicated team manager who works closely with our Fostering Team Manager and our Head of Service for Corporate Parenting to ensure the delivery of well-co-ordinated and streamlined services.

Our Kinship & Permanence service:

Our Kinship & Permanence Service brings together a number of our family placement services including, but not limited to:

Permanency Planning for all Reading cared for children aged up to 11 years
Family finding for children with care plans of permanent fostering
The assessment of kinship carers and special guardians
The registration of private foster carers and monitoring and supporting private fostering arrangements
Supervision of and support to kinship carers
The provision of special guardianship support services
The management of RBC’s permanence allowance scheme
Liaison with our Regional Adoption Agency (RAA) and the day-to-day management of our RAA contract
The provision of support and advise to social workers and managers across the local authority, with regards to achieving and maintaining permanent placements for Reading’s cared for children
The completion of life books and setting up of agreed contact arrangements for adopted children.

Training and support available

Post specific training will be made available to all successful applicants dependent on the requirements of each post and the applicant’s previous experience.

Training will also be made available to all applicants around:

Relevant RBC Children’s Social Care (CSC) policies, procedures and practice guidance
The RBC CSC Mosaic records system.

Professional supervision will be available and Individual professional objectives will be set as part of your continuous professional development and will be reviewed through professional supervision and annual appraisals (with six monthly review).
