Main Duties and Responsibilities Clinical responsibilities To maintain and develop accurate, effective, and reliable service level data, providing data for South East London Tobacco Dependence Oversight Group, Kings Health Partners TDT Operational Group and NHS England. To act as an expert resource in relation to the treatment of tobacco dependence, and to be the first point of contact for all incoming queries and information requests in relation to tobacco dependence. Support the Tobacco Dependence Team to provide specialist tobacco dependence assessments, using formal and other assessment methods where appropriate. Promote national campaigns, such as Stoptober and National No Smoking Day to patients, visitors and staff. To undertake training needs assessments within and across all clinical services so that all clinical staff can provide first-line support to tobacco dependent patients on quitting. Develop and implement relevant initiatives e.g. Stop-before the Op with elective surgical specialties and Cessation of Smoking Treatment in the Emergency Department (CoSTED). In close conjunction with Estates and Clinical Teams, to develop and review protocols and guidelines around smoking People Management and Performance Line manage and develop Tobacco Dependence Specialists (band 6) across KCH sites. Deputise for the Tobacco Dependence Lead as required. Lead and manage the implementation of the NCSCT admission care bundle and BTS rapid inpatient NRT prescribing protocol across inpatient wards. The post holder will establish and maintain close liaison with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure that Tobacco Dependence Treatment is fully integrated into routine patient care pathways. To oversee the design and delivery of appropriate training to all levels of staff within the organisation to support the routine treatment of tobacco dependence. To be trained to deliver high quality interventions to tobacco dependent patients that smoke. Competent in delivering training to support and develop members of the Tobacco Dependence Team and associated clinical staff. To provide specialist advice and support to service providers, health care providers and management teams within the organisation. To identify, support and lead implement innovative projects and initiatives to increase awareness of tobacco dependence treatment and the support available to patients and staff, particularly smokers with long term conditions. To liaise with voluntary and community organisations to develop and improve post discharge care for tobacco dependent patients and ensure that outcome data is fed back to the team. To provide clinical supervision of Tobacco Dependence Specialists. Research and Service Development To utilise theory and evidence-based literature to support work with tobacco dependent patients. To keep up to date with e vidence-based practice relating to the treatment of tobacco dependence, implementing good practice where required. Undertake appropriate research and disseminate findings to team and departmental colleagues where appropriate. To lead on clinical audits and service evaluations with colleagues within the Tobacco Dependence Team to improve service provision. To work closely with the Trust and community communications departments to ensure that smoking cessation support services are widely publicised. Proven ability to engage with different staff groups and departmental specialties to embed routine treatment for tobacco dependent patients as part of their care pathway Personal and Professional The post holder will be responsible for their own professional development and must ensure that they maintain up to date knowledge in respect of any new guidance, policies, research and developments relating to tobacco dependence treatment and medicines, regularly reviewing the support and advice offered to patients in light of this. To liaise with colleagues locally and nationally to ensure sharing of best practice. To support and participate in Trust and local, regional and national smoking cessation forums and initiatives. Education and Training Educated to Masters level or equivalent. Evidence of continued learning and development in the area of behaviour change and supporting lifestyles for patients. Experienced NCSCT certified practitioner. Information Systems and Data Management Proven ability to manage data and prepare reports and data submissions for a variety of organisations and stakeholders. Able to analyse data relating to service performance and make recommendations for future service development, including addressing areas of poor performance. Competent in presenting data to different audiences to promote routine care of tobacco dependent patients. Able to liaise effectively with different departments to co-ordinate data extraction and to conduct data quality checks.
