The Youth Justice Officer (PO3) is an experienced practitioner, ideally a Qualified Social Worker or Probation Officer, with a minimum of two years’ statutory experience in Youth Justice. The role focuses on supporting children and young people involved with the criminal justice system, managing complex caseloads, and reducing reoffending. Key responsibilities include supervising statutory court orders, preparing pre-sentence and referral order reports, representing the Youth Justice Service in Youth and Crown Courts, and ensuring compliance with court orders through appropriate enforcement.

The officer works closely with families, social care teams, and partner agencies to assess risk, deliver tailored intervention plans, and provide structured support for young people on bail, in custody, or remanded to local authority care. The role requires expertise in AssetPlus assessments and other assessment tools to understand offending behaviour, manage risk, and develop measurable, effective interventions.

Additionally, the Youth Justice Officer promotes multi-agency working, restorative justice, and positive community outcomes, while advising managers and relevant professionals on safeguarding concerns. The post holder may undertake home visits, lone working, and community-based sessions, ensuring the safety, welfare, and development of children and young people while supporting their rehabilitation and reintegration into the community.

This role demands strong communication, professional judgement, and the ability to work flexibly, including attendance at court, evening duties, and occasional weekend or bank holiday work.
