Purpose of the Post The Cardiology departments at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) provide cardiology services to inpatients and outpatients. There is a full range of non-invasive diagnostic services with transthoracic, stress and transoesophageal echocardiography as well as CT Coronary Angiography. The Cardiac Catheter Laboratory at QEH is utilised 9-5, Monday-Friday, undertaking diagnostic angiography, coronary angioplasty, simple and complex pacing. Outpatient services include Inherited Cardiovascular Conditions, ACHD, Heart Failure, ACS, Rapid Access Chest Pain, Arrhythmia and Valve clinics. There will be opportunity to tailor the post to the successful candidates interests and experience and can include cath lab based sessions providing training in echocardiography, angiography and pacing. The Senior Clinical Fellow is a member of a multi-disciplinary team looking after the Cardiology ward including the coronary care unit and will have Cardiology out-patient clinics. The Cardiology Department is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. The Trust is part of the Guys, Kings and St Thomas medical student and University of Nicosia Medical School training programmes. The post-holder would be expected to participate in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance. Cardiac Departmental Information The Cardiology Service based at QEH comprises of one ward of 8 coronary care and 16 general cardiology beds, a cardiac department with a high turnover of cardiac investigations (ECGs, transthoracic, stress and trans-oesophageal echocardiograms, Holter monitoring and exercise tests) and Cardiologist led CT coronary angiograms performed in radiology. There is a newly refurbished cardiac catheter laboratory with 5 recovery beds. The lab offers diagnostic and interventional procedures including angiography, angioplasty, simple and complex pacing. The multidisciplinary team includes a Specialist Registrar and a Senior Clinical Fellows as well Specialist Nurses (Coronary, Arrhythmia & Heart Failure). Depending on sub-specialty interest and level of experience, the successful candidate may be trained in coronary intervention, pacing or imaging. Section 4. Training and educational objectives for this post Consolidate and attain/renew Cardiology skills Develop skills in management of specialised Cardiology problems Develop skills in outpatient management Undertake at least one high quality audit project Develop IT skills Duties The weekly timetable will include the following activities: Ward Work, including cardiac support for the on-call and AMU teams Outpatient Clinics Supervision and teaching of Trainees Teaching Sessions Clinical Governance, including Audit and Risk Management Medical management including multidisciplinary meetings. The programme of duties for all medical staff is subject to review on an annual basis. All such reviews are carried out in a manner that allows for the needs of the individual to be taken into account. General The post holder will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of services in Cardiology. On call out of hours/emergency duties The job working hours are Monday-Friday 9-5 Management The Senior Clinical Fellow with Consultant supervision, will be involved in the day-to-day management of the cardiology ward. Clinical management and prioritization of time will be encouraged. The Senior Clinical Fellow will attend regular multidisciplinary meetings and will learn about the delivery of healthcare in the wider NHS, the local health economy, the Department of Health targets and modernisation of the NHS.
