Job Description:-

Volunteer Role Title:-Volunteer Grant Proposal Writer

Organisation:
Nurture the Children International – a registered charity in England and Wales (Charity number: 1173351) dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and families in the UK and abroad. We also provide mental health support services in the community.

Location:
Remote / Home-based (with occasional virtual meetings via Zoom/Teams)
Occasional in-person meetings possible if you are based near London, but not required.

Hours:
Flexible – approximately 4–8 hours per week (can be arranged around your availability)
Minimum commitment of 6–12 months preferred

Role Purpose:
To support the charity’s long-term sustainability by researching funding opportunities and producing high-quality grant applications to trusts, foundations, statutory bodies, and other grant-making organisations, helping us deliver and expand our charitable activities.

Main Responsibilities:

Research and identify suitable funding opportunities from trusts, foundations, local authorities, NHS integrated care boards, National Lottery Community Fund, and other relevant UK grant-makers
Maintain an up-to-date funding pipeline/calendar of opportunities, deadlines, and reporting requirements
Work with trustees, staff, and project leads to gather information about our projects, outcomes, budgets, and impact data needed for applications
Write clear, compelling, and well-structured grant proposals, letters of enquiry (LOIs), expressions of interest, and supporting documents in line with each funder’s guidelines
Prepare accurate budgets and financial information for grant applications (in collaboration with the treasurer/finance lead)
Submit applications on time and follow up as required
Assist with post-award grant reporting and evaluation when needed
Keep accurate records of all applications, correspondence, and outcomes (using shared tools such as Google Drive, Excel, or the charity’s chosen CRM)
Skills and Experience (Essential):

Excellent written English with the ability to produce clear, persuasive, concise, and well-structured documents
Strong research skills and confidence using online databases/portals (e.g. Trustfunding.org.uk, Funds Online, 360Giving, Charity Commission register, Foundation Directory)
Good attention to detail and ability to follow complex application guidelines precisely
Self-motivated and able to manage your own time and meet deadlines
Basic understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel/Google Sheets, and cloud-based file sharing
Desirable (but not essential):

Previous experience in grant/proposal writing for UK charities
Familiarity with common UK funders in our sector (e.g. National Lottery, Comic Relief, Tudor Trust, local community foundations, etc.)
Understanding of outcomes/impact measurement in the charity sector
Experience working with budgets or simple financial narratives
Knowledge of safeguarding, equalities, or GDPR principles in a charity context
