Job Title: Carer

Responsible to: Directly accountable to and taking direction from the employer (Mum)

Hours: 4 hours per week (term time)
8 hours per week (school holidays)

Hourly Rate of Pay: £13.00

Based at: Employer’s own home in Beck Row, Suffolk and out in the local community.

Job Purpose

The purpose of the job is to support and be a friendly companion to a young girl (10) with autism and global development delay. The child lives at home with her Mum, Mum would be the employer. The purpose is to build a trusting, professional relationship with the child and to support her with all her needs. Personal care will be required. Child is verbal but very limited. The young girl enjoys going on her ipad. The family are looking for someone to interact with the child, to take her out to the park, to encourage more outdoor play.

Main duties:

To support with:
• Personal care e.g. washing, dressing and toileting. She will need prompting with washing hands etc.
• Constant supervision is always required.
• Support with all safety aspects, child has no safety awareness, so it is key to always provide constant supervision.
• To be a social friendly companion to the child
• To support and encourage sensory play, going outdoors, going on walks, going to the park, baking etc. She likes baking, prepping and chopping.
• The young girl can become agitated at times, so you will need to be away with her triggers.
• To build a supportive relationship and take part in activities which the child enjoys.
• To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.

• Understand the need for privacy and confidentiality.
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• Have experience with working with children with autism.
• You should have some knowledge and understanding of risks.
• Have an awareness and knowledge of equal opportunities.

Special Conditions

This post is subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check at the Employers request prior to commencing employment. The post carries a 6-month probationary period.
