Location: Council Offices, Frensham Street, Southwark, SE15 6TH
Hours: 36 per week
Start Date: 30 March 2026
Duration: 24 Weeks
Work Pattern:
3 days per week at Frensham Street Depot
1 day per week at 160 Tooley Street, London Bridge
1 day per week working from home
About the Client
Southwark Council’s Housing Repairs & Maintenance division delivers essential services across the borough’s housing stock. The Responsive Repairs service requires strong health and safety leadership to ensure compliance, safe working practices and continuous improvement across operational teams and contractors.
The Role
The Health & Safety Manager will provide professional H&S support to the Responsive Repairs service, ensuring legal compliance and maintaining an effective safety management system. You will lead on risk assessments, audits, inspections, investigations and performance reporting, while advising on CDM 2015 duties and supporting operational teams, managers and contractors.
This role requires a confident H&S professional with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills and experience within construction, DLO or repairs environments.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on the development, review and quality assurance of RAMS.
Deliver audits, inspections, investigations and performance reporting.
Promote continuous improvement across all H&S processes and practices.
Provide expert advice on CDM 2015 duties and compliance.
Support operational teams, managers and contractors with H&S guidance.
Ensure legal compliance and maintain an effective safety management system.
Advise on statutory and legislative changes impacting the service.
Support tender processes, including arrangement, invitation and evaluation.
Candidate Requirements
Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation.
IOSH membership.
H&S qualification (degree or diploma).
Experience in construction, DLO or responsive repairs environments.
Proven auditing, investigation and data analysis skills.
Ability to deliver training and promote safe working practices.
Experience in public sector housing and CDM‑related project work desirable.
Additional H&S or auditing certifications advantageous.
