Job Title: High Voltage Estimator

Location: West Midlands and surrounding areas

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: 6 months (Possibility of a permanent position)

Pay: £37,392 - £44,100

Hours: Monday to Friday 9 -5pm (Hybrid)

Overview of the role - Team / Projects / Key challenges

As the HV Estimator, you will have expert knowledge of the tendering process whilst being capable of dealing with a wide range of cost-planning activities.

You will have the ability to perform detailed reviews of technical drawings and associated documentation and be responsible for both the creation and analysis of cost plans and risk profiling for a wide range of HV construction projects, including full measurement and detailed rating exercises. You will also be capable of easily visualising outline designs, drawings and specifications.

Regular national travel. Flexibility required to suit the needs of the business.

  • Projects will range from small one-off network connections to complex, multi-faceted networks for strategic customers valued at more than £5m.
  • Long-term projects requiring a strategic approach to construction contracts.
  • High profile and often complex engineering projects with challenging clients and multiple stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for both establishing tenders and managing complex bids from initial enquiry, all the way through to the final submission to the client team.
  • Take-off and quantification of engineering / technical drawings prior to the generation of cost plans;
  • To drive the Sales, Bid, Design, Project and Procurement teams to structure and continually improve the commercial competitiveness of E. ON's position, whilst maintaining delivery quality and security of supply.
  • Continually push the boundaries of best practice whilst also promoting this ethos with stakeholders (both internal and external);
  • Assist with the validation of client team tender content, supporting Sales, Bid and Design / Engineering to develop viable solutions.
  • Identifying & reporting of risk and value-added opportunities whilst ensuring their consideration and / or mitigation are evident in E. ON's proposals.
  • Administration of tender adjudication process resulting in the generation of the commercial outputs (ATB figures) and base CVR.
  • Contribute to the generation of bid document content.
  • Working with the Sales and Bid teams to establish new opportunities but also developing existing relationships.
  • Provide technical and commercial support to the delivery team and to assist in the resolution of conflicts with suppliers and contractors should they arise.
  • Analyse business practices and market conditions to evaluate bid responsiveness, contractor responsibility and performance
  • Visiting client, contractor and supplier offices and sites if required.
  • Providing structured and appropriate feedback to supply chain; and
  • Typical duties as required of an Estimator under the direction of the Estimating Manager.
  • Work independently as the construction commercial specialist for pre-contract activities.
  • High degree of autonomy in setting contracting and buildability strategy for tenders;
  • Advising the Sales and Bid teams in pre-contract client negotiations to ensure business risk is managed / mitigated and E. ON is not tied into onerous contractual obligations for construction schemes that may affect ability to maximise profit margins.

Experience and Qualifications - Essential / Desirable

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 years industry experience as an Estimator or QS in a construction environment.
  • Capable of reviewing engineering / technical drawings (mostly electrical supply network and Civil Engineering) and the ability to analyse, interpret, measure and quantify BOQ / QSORs for multiple trade scopes.
  • Ability to construct and deconstruct projects / proposals on a 1st principal basis, including knowledge and ability to establish and interrogate proposals aligned with NRM principles;
  • Drafting of ITT documentation, the generation and collation of scope appropriate data and the determination of trade interfaces (managing scope gaps).
  • Track record of leveraging procurement-led opportunities (both contracting and manufacturing organisations);
  • Working knowledge of electrical supply network construction type contracts and UK legislation.
  • Working knowledge of CDM, HSSE, DNOs, IDNOs and the Built Environment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Analytical in approach and ability to positively influence decisions with structured evidence and through knowledge of subject areas; and
  • Working knowledge of standard PC software tools (such as MS Office, MS Project, etc) and the ability and willingness to learn new software tools.

Desirable

  • Appropriate engineering or commercial qualification e.g. Degree / Diploma.
  • In-depth knowledge of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical supply networks.
  • In depth knowledge of utility networks.
  • Working knowledge of planning tools and software.
  • Working knowledge of SAP (reporting and order management);
  • Strong understanding of the commercial impact relating to decisions.
  • Familiar with lean tools such as 8D and statistical analysis; and
  • Leadership and coaching skills with the ability to motivate on an individual and a team level.
